Kidnapping Continues in Bihar; Police Clueless

Patna: April 18, 2007

Even as the state police continued to shoot in the dark looking for the kidnappers of 8-year old Ankit who disappeared from his school in Patna City a week ago, three more cases of abductions were reported from various parts of Bihar on Wednesday continuing to undermine the claims of the Nitish government of a better Bihar in the post Lalu-Rabri era.

17-year old Ashish Kumar, a college student from Forbesganj who was in Patna for last few weeks to attend a coaching institute, had been missing since Monday, the police said. Abductors have allegedly made a demand for Rs. 5 lakh for the safe return of the victim.

Meanwhile, two more cases of kidnappings have been reported from Buxar district though details were not readily available.

On Wednesday, a delegate of the Bihar Public School and Children Welfare Association (BPSCWA) met with the Governor R. S. Gavai asking him to intervene in the spiraling law and order in the state and take the matter into his own hand.

The Governor is believed to have assured the delegate of full support.
