Leftists Up in Arm against the New Police Act

Patna: April 19, 2007

Leftists with affiliations to the Communist Party of India (ML) observed a statewide protest in Bihar demanding immediate withdrawal of the new Police Act calling it too 'draconian' and an attempt to kill the voice of the opposition.

In Patna, the party took out a rally from its headquarters to the Income Tax roundabout where they burnt the effigy of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

"Until this Act is repealed, we will continue our agitation against it," said party official Saroj Chaubey.

Similar protests were held in Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, Purnia, Darbhanga and Siwan.
