Patna: April 19, 2007
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday met with a number of school girls from Mahal Vidyalaya, Rajapur, wearing the new school uniform provided by the state and gave the new dress a nod of approval.
The girls answered in affirmative when the Chief Minister asked them how they liked their new uniform. "It's a different kind of dress with dark blue top and light blue salwar with a matching 'dupatta', it's definitely liked by all girls," said the students.
Education Secretary D. M. M. Jha said the students would receive Rs. 700 annually to buy two sets of school uniform.
The dress was designed by the designing department of Patna Women's College, Jha said.
Kumar exhorted everyone to pledge to send their kids, boys and girls, to school. He also applauded the recently-implemented scheme of providing bikes to all girls in the high school.
"Girls wearing the new uniform on new bicycles will soon be seen in all villages of Bihar," the Chief Minister said.
Several Patna school principals and the principal of Patna Women's College Sister Doris DeSouza were also present during the meet.
