Mauritius to Observe Bihar Day

Mauritius High Commissioner to India Mukteshwar Chuni who is in Bihar to explore his ancestral roots and promote cultural ties between the Indian state and his own island country, said Mauritius will be celebrating Bihar Week between June 17-21 to encourage bilateral trade and cultural exchanges and invited Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his ministers to join in the celebration.
"The goal is to highlight the close cultural roots between Bihar and Mauritius where a large majority of people have Bihari origins," said Chuni adding never before such event had been organized at this scale in Mauritius and the Mauritanian government was keen on promoting such cultural and business events in future to further strengthen relationship with Bihar.
Chuni's invitation to join in the Bihar Day sponsored by the Global Organization of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) in Mauritius was accepted by the Chief Minister.
As reported before, the Nitish government had earlier announced its decision to install a life-size statue of Mauritius' first Prime Minister Sir Sewsagur Ramghoolam, who also came from Bihar, in Patna.
