Scuffle at Patna Police Association Elections
Patna: April 22, 2007
Police officers in Patna under various factions scuffled with each other during the election of the officers of the Patna Police Association on Sunday leaving several contestants injured further blurring the line between the law enforcement officials and ordinary miscreants in the state.
The trouble started when the incumbent president K. K. Jha decided to proceed with the meeting in the absence of many members of the association. Pramod Kumar, a candidate for the post of 'Mahamantri' of the association, objected to the move leading to an altercation that soon turned into an all-out bar room type brawl with supporters of one group throwing chair on another and beating up other candidates and their supporters.
The situation got so tense that DSP (Law and Order) Amar Singh and Secretariat police had to intervene. Anti-riot vehicle Vajra was also summoned considering the seriousness of the situation.
Before long, Pramod Kumar was seriously hurt and had to be administered first aid for several wounds.
Both Jha and Kumar have filed FIRs against each other.
The election was cancelled until further notification.
