LJP, SP Stage Dharna on Flood, Other Issues
Patna: Aug. 3, 2007
Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) activists in Patna on Friday held a dharna against the NDA government in Bihar to protest against the administration's 'apathetic approach' towards the flood victims while also demanding a CBI investigation into the 'Rs. 200 crore flood relief scam', a charge only leveled by the LJP leaders for apparent political reasons.
The leaders accused the Nitish government of 'hoodwinking' the people of Bihar in the name of flood relief which they said existed only on papers.
"Over Rs. 200 crore allocated for relief operation has been misappropriated by the Bihar government and a CBI enquiry should be initiated to bring the guilty parties to justice," Party national secretary Satyanand Sharma said.
He further accused the NDA government of implicating party president of Lakhisarai J. M. Paswan on false charges while also condemning the recent phone threat to party president and Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan.
"The entire state is reeling with the impact of flood in Bihar but the NDA government is only engaging in lip services. There is no sign of any relief operation in any flood-affected areas but the government remains in a state of denial insisting everything was fine in Bihar," party spokesperson Sanjay Singh said.
Similar protests were also held by Samajwadi Party (SP) who held a day-long dharna at the Income Tax roundabout.
"People had trust in Nitish Kumar but he has failed on all fronts," party activist Abhishek Yadav said.
