Son of Retired Judge Opens Fire at Mob

Patna: Aug. 7, 2007

The son of a retired judge is in dock after angry residents of Khagari area near Raja Bazaar in Patna on Tuesday pelted stones at his house accusing him of opening fire at them following a dispute over dumping garbage in front of his residence.

As reported, on Tuesday morning when some local residents tried to dump trash in front of retired judge and a member of the state backward commission S. N. Mandal's house, the judge and his son R. N. Mandal tried to stop them thus raising the ire of the locals.

Soon the situation turned volatile as dozens of people gathered outside the judge's house and pelted stones and other objects at them.

The judge's son then went inside his home and took out his licensed gun and shot few rounds in air to scare away the protestors.

This further aggravated the situation. Only after arrival of Shastri Nagar police station, things were finally brought under control.

Meanwhile, the judge's son denied having fired in the air. He did, however, admit that he pulled out gun from inside but that was only to scare away the miscreants who had attacked his father's house.

Cases have been filed by both parties. The police are investigating the case.
