Patna: Aug. 7, 2007
Armed robbers in Patna under Sri Krishna Puri police station on Tuesday shot and killed a 52-year old Nagendra Singh while robbing him of Rs. 40,000 in cash that he had just withdrawn from the Patna GPO, the police said.
As reported, Singh was returning to his home with his younger brother Upendra Kumar Singh after cashing their mother's Kisan Vikas Patra worth Rs 60,000.
For safety reasons, Singh carried Rs. 40,000 while his brother kept Rs. 20,000 with him.
When they arrived at Kasturba Path, they split their ways to their separate, though adjacent, houses. While Upendra who was carrying Rs. 20,000 with him, managed to enter his house without any problem, two youths on motorcycle brandishing pistols ambushed Nagendra Singh and demanded money from him.
When Singh showed resistance in parting his money, one of the criminals stuck the pistol in his head and fired killing Singh instantly.
After grabbing the money bag, the criminals then fled on their motorcycle.
Ironically, the incident took place in broad daylight in front of the house of Public Commissioner Narmadeshwar Pandey.
The body of the victim was sent to the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) for an autopsy, Sri Krishna Puri police station in-charge Madan Kishore Prasad said.
The incident has caused a panic in the area as police searches for Singh's killers.
