HC Adjourns DA Case against Lalu-Rabri

Patna: Aug. 8, 2007

The Patna High Court on Wednesday, following appeals from both sides, adjourned the hearing of the state government's petition challenging acquittal of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and his wife and former Chief Minister of Bihar Rabri Devi in the disproportionate assets (DA) case till September 12.

Justice R. K. Dutta who heard a joint appeal from the lawyers of the concerned parties, accepted their plea to adjourn the case till September 12 so they could seek the advise of senior counsels in Supreme Court.

Interestingly, the court on July 4, had adjourned till Aug. 8 on nearly identical grounds.

It may be recalled that the state government, on February 19, had filed a petition in the Patna High Court challenging the acquittal of Yadav and Rabri Devi in the DA Case by a lower court.

Lalu-Rabri duo have been accused of amassing assets over Rs. 46 lakh beyond their known means of income.
