Patna's Singing Sensation Deepali Eliminated from Indian Idol
Patna: Aug. 11, 2007
People of Bihar were disappointed to learn when Deepali, the talented teenager from Patna Women's College, was shown the door on the Saturday night episode of hugely popular Indian Idol show after the judges, as usual, squabbled with each other over her performance in last few episodes.
With tears flowing in Deepali's co-contestants' eyes, the 18-year girl from Patna bravely sang the customary parting song by singing 'Jab Chhaye Mera Jaado' leaving the judges bicker over her performance and talent with playback singer Alisha Chenoy strongly coming out in her defense.
17-year old contestant from Kolkata, Emon Chatterjee appeared to be more shocked at the departure of Deepali than anyone else. He hugged and wished good luck to the girl who in a post-show interview denied any romantic link with any of her co-contestants.
Deepali's father Dinesh Kishore blamed power failure in Bihar on Friday and the destructive flood in the state for less vote for his daughter. "It is sad that the Idol contestants are judged on the number of votes and not on their talent and performance. With Bihar facing prolonged power cuts in many districts and flood taking its own toll in north Bihar, it definitely affected the vote count against my daughter," he said.
Though clearly disappointed by the Saturday night outcome, Deepali's mother said she had full confidence in her daughter and it was only a matter of time before she was declared the winner of Indian Idol.
Deepali said she intended to pursue a career in singing and planned to move to Mumbai to study Communication to realize her dream of becoming a radio jockey.
