No Headway in Akaash Abduction Case
Patna: Aug. 12, 2007
The police is looking for a green Maruti van that was used to kidnap 11-year old Akaash on Friday morning though success has so far eluded the officials who continue to search for the DAV student by raiding a number of auto garages in the state capital hoping to find any clue in the case.
With still no demand for ransom by the kidnappers, the police remains in dark as to the identities and whereabouts of the criminals, Shastri Nagar police station in-charge Kamod Prasad said on Sunday.
Based on some eyewitness accounts, authorities in Patna have asked the citizens to be on the lookout of a green Maruti van that they believe was used to pick up Akaash Friday morning.
The fact that the kidnappers have not tried to contact the parents of the victim for any ransom demand, the police have virtually no clue in the case causing great concern for the family members who, on Sunday, appealed to the kidnappers to release the boy immediately or contact them with their demands.
"We don't have much to go but whatever little information we have, we are doing our best to recover Akaash and reunite him with his family members," Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kundan Krishnan said.
Meanwhile, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders in Patna have demanded an immediate stop on kidnapping in Bihar while accusing the government of failing to curb crime in the state.
In a joint statement by Shakeel Ahmed Khan, Shyam Rajak, and Nihora Prasad Yadav, the opposition leaders said cases of abductions under the ruling NDA government was at an all-time high and the Nitish government, that had stormed into power by promising to check crime in the state in three months, had instead allowed the criminals to take over the state where parents were living in a constant state of fear.
