People of Patna once again are living in a state of hellish condition as heavy rain, for the second day in a row, lashed the city on Tuesday inundating many areas with knee to waist-deep water making it extremely difficult for people to move.

With no sign of let up in the rain, district officials hurried to salvage the Independence Day parade at Patna's Gandhi Maidan by commissioning water pumps to suck out rain water that has turned the sprawling field into a lake.

The dreaded scenes that follow each rain in Patna including stalled vehicles on the streets, water entering houses in the low-lying areas, garbage floating everywhere, closed schools, and trains running late due to water on the tracks were replayed on Tuesday paralyzing the normal functioning of the city.

As if that was not enough, rain also damaged several power lines in the state capital denying the residents of electricity for 12-14 hours. Damages in BSNL underground phone lines further added to the misery of the people who now are wishing for the rain to just go away and not show its ugly face for a long, long time.

Reports of injuries were also received from many areas where poorly-built houses caved in due to heavy rain on Tuesday.
