Dashrath Manjhi's Caretaker asks Limca to Set the Records Straight
New Delhi: Aug. 15, 2007
The caretaker of ailing Dashrath Manjhi, Sanjay Kumar, on Wednesday in New Delhi, accused the Limca Book of World Records of misrepresenting the facts about Manjhi who shot into national limelight for chiseling a road across the Gahlaur Mountain in Gaya district with his bare hands and simple tools for nearly 22 years thus considerably reducing the distance to cross the mountain.
"Limca Book of World Records is not doing any justice to Dashrath Baba by misrepresenting the facts," said Kumar adding the book records the road built by Manjhi as 350' long and 16' wide and describes the Gahlaur Mountain as only 12' tall.
"The fact is, the road built by Dashrath Baba is 360' long, 30' wide, and the mountain is 25' tall. Further, the Limca record book describes the mountain near Rajgir whereas the mountain is actually located in Gaya district," Kumar said demanding from the Limca Book of World Records to set the facts straight.
"Because of these errors, Dashrath Baba has been excluded from being listed in the Guiness Book of World Records," Kumar insinuated.
Manjhi, a poor farmer from Gaya, currently remains hospitalized at Delhi's premier All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) due to ailments caused by old age. His medical expenses are being borne by the Bihar government.
