Rain Water Threatens Animals in Patna Zoo
Patna: Aug. 17, 2007
Incessant rain in the state capital for last several days, while turning the lives miserable for all the residents of Patna, is now threatening the animals in Patna Zoo where rain water has inundated many cages including the ones occupied by rhinos, deer and other animals.
Sanjay Gandhi Zoological Garden director Rakesh Kumar, on Friday, said the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) had been notified of the quandary and if not checked immediately, it could very well threaten the lives of many more animals in the zoo.
The problem was also brought to the attention of Urban Development Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey who said steps were being taken to limit the damage caused by the rain water and high-powered pumps were being brought in to pump out water from animal cages.
Rain water has also brought a screeching halt to the children's train movement with water flooding the track that remains littered with broken trees and other garbage swept in by water flowing from the airport side.
Zoo authorities were trying to clear the debris to restore the train movement, the zoo director said.
