Digvijay Beats the Drum of Wrongdoing in Flood Relief Operation
Patna: Aug. 19, 2007
Congress national general secretary and Bihar party in-charge Digvijay Singh, sticking to the anti-NDA talking points in Patna on Sunday, accused the Nitish government of failing to check flood in Bihar while also failing to provide relief to the flood victims in a timely manner.
Regurgitating the opposition's biggest complaint against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Singh lambasted the CM for staying too long in Mauritius "even when he was notified about the severity of flood in Bihar".
"He could have cut short his trip to Mauritius but he did not do so showing his apathy towards the flood victims," Singh said at a press conference adding the Chief Minister's absence during the initial phase of the flood caused a major setback in the relief operation causing many loss of lives.
The Congress leader also indicated irregularities in the distribution of flood-relief items in many districts.
"Gullible villagers are being forced to sign papers indicating they have received more items in flood relief than what they were actually given by the flood relief officials," he said.
Earlier on Sunday, a delegate of Congress leaders met with the Chief Minister and handed over a memo to him demanding acceleration in the relief operation 'without any discrimination or prejudice'.
