Naxals Kill Three in Saran District

Patna: Aug. 19, 2007

Maoist guerillas numbering at least 50 in Maker village in Saran district on Sunday night attacked the house of the block chief Guddu Sharma and shot dead his wife, uncle and a private bodyguard sending a wave of panic in the region.

As reported, over 50 Naxalites armed to the hilt surrounded the house of Sharma at around 9:00 pm on Sunday and after forcing their way into his house, opened indiscriminate firing killing Pawan Sharma, the wife of Guddu Sharma, uncle Shambhu Sharma, and a private bodyguard Mrityunjay Kumar before setting three vehicles including a Bolero, a tractor, and a motorcycle on fire.

Sharma himself was not at home when the ultras launched their assault against his family, the police said.

Senior police officials were camping in the area where security has been heightened in anticipation of more Naxal attacks.
