Flood Victims Attack BDO Office in Vaishali

Patna: Aug. 20, 2007

With no sign of let up from flood in Bihar and relief reaching the victims in many areas at a snail's place, people's patience once again gave away on Monday when hundreds of lathi-wielding victims of flood launched an assault at the block office in Mahua in Vaishali district beating up government employees and destroying furniture and equipment.

While the Block Development Officer managed to slip away from the back door, other government employees engaged in the relief operation were not so lucky and were victimized by the villagers who said no relief official had visited them in last five days.

For nearly half an hour, the entire area resembled a riot-torn place until the police arrived and managed to disperse the crowd.

Several officials also received injuries when the angry mob pelted them with stones and other objects, reports said.

Meanwhile, 13 more deaths were reported from various districts including Sitamarhi, Gaya, Madhubani, Hajipur, Sitamarhi, Begusarai, Harnaut, and Motihari sending the total of flood victims to above 300.
