Angry LPG Consumers Protest outside Gas Agency

Patna: Aug. 21, 2007

Dozens of angry men and women near Kurji bridge in Patna on Tuesday protested against the Magadh Enterprises Gas Agency management for failing to supply them cooking gas cylinders while showing preferences towards certain customers.

Burning old tires and wooden items, the mob blocked the Danapur-Gandhi Maidan Road for over three hours while chanting unflattering slogans against the gas agency owner.

The crowd, however, dispersed after Digha police intervened and asked the angry consumers to come back at 2:00 pm to get their cylinders.

At 2:00 pm when the people returned to claim their gas cylinders, they were told the agency had already sold out all cylinders in the stock.

This led to a second round of protest that was brought under control only after senior police officials dispatched the anti-riot vehicle and promised to get the consumers gas cylinders on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the manager of the agency denied any irregularity in the distribution of the cooking gas cylinders and demanded security for its staff apprehending more trouble.
