Modi Inaugurates Call Center
Patna: Aug. 22, 2007
Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, while inaugurating the Catalyst Call Center in Patna on Wednesday, advised the students to pursue job-oriented courses instead of crowding B.A. and B. Com classes saying there were plenty of job opportunities in the field of IT, insurance, and banking that did not require traditional Bachelor's degrees.
Modi expressed his disappointment over under-admission in some of the job-oriented courses in Patna University. "While 30 such new courses were introduced in last few months, students were still making a beeline at the traditional degree courses that could prove to be ineffective in today's job market," he said.
Suggesting the students to work on their communicative English and knowledge of computer, Modi said without a good command over the English language and the basic understanding of computers, it would be extremely tough for today's youths to find a job in this fast-changing world.
Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), who was also present at the occasion, said job environment in Bihar was fast changing and huge employment opportunities existed in the Information and Technology arena that would put Bihar at par with other developed states.
Catalyst president Basant Kumar Agrawal praised the Nitish government for providing favorable business environment in the state.
The Call Center, operating 24/7 handling more than 15 lakh calls for a large telecom company is expected to employ more than 400 people, Catalyst director Neeraj Agrawal said.
Catalyst already operates in other large metropolitans employing over 10,000 employees, he said.
