JD-U Leaders Support Decision to Expel Kushwaha
Patna: Aug. 23, 2007
Several Janata Dal (U) leaders, on Thursday, came out in defense of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and party president Sharad Yadav for expelling party general secretary Upendra Kushwaha saying making Kushwaha the leader of the opposition in the state Assembly was one of the biggest blunders committed by the party leadership.
"Despite his sustained anti-party activities, the party gave him more than enough opportunities to get his acts straight. He should have been sacked long time ago," JD-U legislator Bhagwan Singh Kushwaha said at a press conference at party headquarters in Patna.
"The fact is, Upendra Kushwaha only cared about himself and no one else. He never used his position to strengthen the party and when he did not get his way, he started to talk about other party activists and how they were ignored under the Nitish regime," Bhagwan Kushwaha said adding despite Upendra Kushwaha's apparent anti-party actions, Nitish Kumar, or any other senior party leader, never mistreated him.
Other JD-U leaders present at the press conference included Shobha Singh, Vinod Singh, Yugesh Kushwaha, and Gyanchandra Mehta.
