Minister Picks Trash to Launch Clean Patna Drive
Patna: Aug. 23, 2007
State Urban Development Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey, along with other Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders on Thursday, launched the "Clean Patna" campaign by picking up garbage outside Hindi Sahitya Sammelan in Kadam Kuan while announcing rewards for Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) employees for doing an outstanding job during the campaign.
Accompanied by BJP legislator from Patna Central Arun Kumar Sinha, Mayor Sanjay Kumar, Deputy Mayor Santosh Mehta, and PMC commissioner Rana Awadhesh Singh, Choubey, using a shovel, picked up trash and loaded them on a waiting tractor.
Several women activists of the BJP also picked up the broom and dust pan and swept the road in an attempt to set an example for others.
The special Clean Patna drive would go on till October 2nd to coincide with the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi though unofficially, it would continue to be implemented in future to keep the city free from trash, Choubey said.
Promising rewards for hard-working employees, the minister admonished PMC staff of tough actions against them if found goofing on the job. He also warned the ward councilors of denying them government-sponsored schemes.
Choubey also appealed to the residents of Patna to help the administration keep the city clean and asked them to support the government's 'Aapka Shahar, Aapka Ghar' campaign for a cleaner, better state capital.
