Extra-Marital Activities Leads to RJD MP's Suspension from LS
New Delhi: Aug. 23, 2007
A special Parliamentary committee on Thursday recommended suspension of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP from Gaya Rajesh Kumar Manjhi for 30 working days after finding him guilty of abusing his power by receiving special treatment for his alleged mistress passing her as his wife, perjuring in the Parliament, and degrading the dignity of the Parliament.
This is the first time in the history of the Indian Parliament that such harsh steps have been recommended against a sitting MP, experts said.
"What Mr. Manjhi has done is reprehensible and illegal in the eyes of the law for which not only he deserves suspension but also legal actions," the committee said in its report.
Official order of suspension could come as early as tomorrow, sources said.
Manjhi is also banned from traveling on government tab with his wife or any other aide for the rest of the 14th Parliament session, it was learnt.
The whistleblower in the MP's shenanigans was none other than Manjhi's wife who earlier complained about her husband leaving her in favor of another woman while fully utilizing MP perks meant for MPs spouses.
