Magadh University May Split in Two Units

Patna: Aug. 24, 2007

Governor R. S. Gavai's OSD Krishna Kumar on Friday proposed splitting up Magadh University (MU) with colleges in Patna district to come under a different entity while all the colleges in and around Gaya to remain under the existing Magadh University administration.

The restructuring will help the government administer the colleges more effectively and efficiently, Kumar said at a meeting with teachers at the B. D. Evening College in Patna.

With 44 colleges scattered around Patna and Gaya, the university faces tremendous difficulties in holding exams, publishing results and conducting its day-to-day businesses. Splitting it into two entities would mean better learning environment for the students with better control over the colleges, the OSD said.

Commending the principal of the B. D. Evening College Subhash Prasad Sinha for continuing to strive for academic excellence, Kumar suggested taking the word 'Evening' out of the name of the college since it was no more only an evening college but operated normally like other colleges.
