Bureaucrats Need a Change in Attitude: Nitish
Patna: Aug. 25, 2007
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, on Saturday, while speaking on the first anniversary of the completion of the State Information Commission, advised the government employees to change their 'old, bureaucratic mindset' and get rid of their 'policy of deferment' in the interest of the people of Bihar.
"Government employees are notorious about delaying any work by finding any excuse they can find, including some old rules as long as it helps postpone their work. This mindset is a huge impediment in the implementation of any plan and must be changed by the bureaucrats if they want to see a new Bihar," Kumar said at the function organized at the Soochna Bhawan in Patna.
Revisiting the positives of the Right to Information (RTI), the Chief Minister said the RTI Act was implemented to ensure complete transparency and accountability in the system.
"The public is entitled to all information in various government departments. The state employees should not be hesitant in providing information to the public and if they are then it gives the impression of some wrongdoing in the department," said Kumar.
Speaking on the occasion, Patna High Court Chief Justice Dr. J. N. Bhatt hailed the RTI Act as a major milestone in the bureaucratic history of Bihar.
"This right empowers people of all class and must be revered by all," Dr. Bhatt said.
