Mother-Son Found Hanging from Ceiling in Kankarbagh

Patna: Aug. 26, 2007

In a shocking incident, people in Kankarbagh under Patrakar Nagar police station on Sunday recovered the dead bodies of 30-year old Sunita and her 3-year old son Rahul hanging from a ceiling fan indicating murder-suicide as the probable cause of their deaths.

The incident took place in LIG flat number 4/122 in Hanuman Nagar, the police said.

The victims' bodies were taken by the police and sent to the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) for autopsies.

Jitendra Kumar, the husband of the woman, was out of town when the woman apparently committed suicide after helping her son die by hanging, the police said.

Reports said the couple with their child had gone to Patna City on Saturday to attend the engagement ceremony of Sunita's sister. While Sunita and Rahul returned to their home in Kankarbagh Saturday night, Jitendra went to Hazaribagh along with other family members of Sunita.

Upon his return from Hazaribagh on Sunday night, Jitendra found the front door locked from inside and despite several attempts to open the door, there was no answer from inside.

Becoming suspicious, Jitendra then sought the help of some neighbors and enter into the house from balcony when he found his wife and his only son hanging from the ceiling fan using the same bed sheet.

Kumar, a sales executive with a local Maruti dealer, has been detained by the police for further questioning. The police said he is cooperating with the investigation.
