Worker Injured in Bomb Blast at Engineering College
Patna: Aug. 26, 2007
A daily wage worker was injured when a bomb hidden inside a metal box at the National Institute of Technology (formerly known as Bihar College of Engineering) campus went off while he worked there on Sunday afternoon, the police said.
As reported, Asif, a resident of Phulwarisharif, along with other workers, was cleaning up debris at the site of a new hostel being built within the campus. During the removal of the rubble, Asif found a metal box that he tried to open. When it failed to open, Asif bounced the box on the ground hoping that would open it.
The impact, however, caused a large explosion made by a bomb that was kept inside the box, the police said.
Asif suffered injuries in his hands and other parts of his body. He was rushed to the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) where he is said to be in serious condition but out of any danger, officials said.
Town DSP Sushant Kumar Saroj, who inspected the site of explosion, said it appeared criminals had hidden the bomb inside the upcoming hostel during a crackdown on criminals a few days ago.
An FIR has been lodged with the Pirbahore police station and police is investigating the case.
Meanwhile, the college has banned entry into the campus without a valid identification card.
