Wednesday was a day in Patna when political parties in Bihar opposed to the Nitish government staged a number of protest rallies against the police brutality case involving a petty criminal in Bhagalpur while demanding the resignation of the Chief Minister for 'unleashing a reign of chaos and crime' in the state.
Communist Party of India (ML), torching the effigy of Nitish Kumar, asked for the resignation of Nitish Kumar saying the NDA was a "combination of feudal forces where fascism had become prevalent and bureaucracy gone completely out of control".
"On August 30, the party will hold a state-wide protest against the NDA government in view of the Bhagalpur incident and will call for a Bhagalpur bandh on August 31," party leader Ramjatan Sharma said on Wednesday.
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), not to be left behind in the rush for protests, organized its own rally under the leadership of Patna metro president Khurshid Alam Siddiqui starting from Ashok Rajpath to JP roundabout via Sabjibagh while demanding resignation of the Chief Minister.
Demanding a judicial enquiry into the Bhagalpur incident, the RJD leaders threatened to go on a state-wide bandh if the policemen involved in the brutality case were not dismissed within 48 hours – that in spite of the fact that both cops had already been shown the door just hours after the heinous act of brutality was committed on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Muslim women activists also took out a rally led by Ward No. 40 councilor Shahjadi Begum and burnt the effigy of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Protests against the police brutality in Bhagalpur were also registered by Congress, Dalit Muslim Front, and SUCI.
