Acquisition of Land for Nalanda International University Complete
Patna: Aug. 30, 2007
The process to acquire land in Nalanda district to set up the Nalanda International University has been completed and a boundary wall would soon be erected around it to mark the territory for the future place of higher learning, Nalanda District Magistrate Anand Kishore said on Thursday.
"It took us five months to complete the acquiring process," said the DM adding this would pave the way for the construction of the proposed buildings that would be part of the ambitious project that would be spread in nearly 500 acres of land.
Former President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, who was appointed the first Visitor of the proposed university by the Nitish government, is expected to visit Bihar sometime in September to help the government draft a charter of Acts for the university.
The state government earlier was also able to rope in Nobel laureate Prof. Amartya Sen and noted British Economist and member of the House of Lords, Lord Meghnad Desai to form a core group of consultants from across the globe in its efforts to revive the glory of the ancient seat of learning.
Japan and Singapore have already shown their interest in investing over $100 million in building the university that is expected to attract students and teachers from far and across.
