Patna: Dec. 1, 2007
A dispute over the parking ticket at Patna Junction on early Saturday morning led to the death of a taxi driver causing a riot like situation though prompt response by the railway police and local administration help prevent the situation from worsening further.
As reported, 25-year old Vishnukant, an employee of a local travel agency owned by one Ajay Kumar of Rajiv Nagar, arrived at the Patna Junction in a Qualis vehicle to pick up a passenger. When the driver noticed the date on the parking fee receipt as Nov. 30 instead of Dec. 1, he raised an objection and demanded to have the receipt with the correct date on it.
This led to an altercation and, as reported, some other parking lot attendants joined the fight and beat up the driver until he was dead.
As the news of Vishnukant's murder spread, hundreds of protestors blocked the station entrance and demanded arrests of those responsible for the senseless killing of the driver.
Senior police officials including the Railway Superintendent of Police (SP) Ajitabh Kumar, DSP Satyanarayan Kumar, and Kotwali police station in-charge Abhay Narain Singh rushed to the railway station and after much effort, brought the situation under control.
The victim's body was sent to the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) for an autopsy.
Attempts were being made to identify the killers, the police said.
