Arms Supplier Arrested from Patna Hotel

Patna: Dec. 3, 2007

The police in Patna on Monday, following a raid in a hotel in Pirmuhani area under Gandhi Maidan police station, arrested a purported arms dealer and recovered eight pistols from his possession, officials said.

Deepak Kumar, a native of Dhanarua, arrived in Patna on Monday morning and rented a room in a Pirmuhani hotel with the intention to sell arms to criminals.

The police, however, acting on a tip provided by an unnamed source, surrounded the hotel to prevent the criminal from escaping. When they raided the room in which Deepak was staying, they found a bag containing eight pistols.

Upon interrogation, Deepak admitted of coming to Patna with the intention to sell the pistols.

Gandhi Maidan police station in-charge Mundrika Prasad said Deepak, who supplied arms in Bihar, UP, Jharkhand, and New Delhi, was wanted in a number of murder cases including the murder of his own wife over dowry dispute.
