Medical students from across the state in Patna on Monday took out a rally against the Central government's proposed policy to lengthen the time to complete the MBBS course and to impose mandatory services in rural areas calling the measure draconian, impractical, and unjust designed to hurt the interests of the students.

Under the new regulations, it would take a little over 16 years to complete the entire medical course as opposed to 10.5 years that it takes under the status quo, said the stirring medicos.

The rally began at the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) and after covering Ashok Rajpath, Gandhi Maidan, it converged at the Dak Bungalow crossing where they chanted unflattering slogans against the Union Health Minister A. Ramadoss.

Indian Medical Association (IMA) state president Dr. Basant Singh, vice president Dr. Sahajanand Prasad Singh also participated in the rally in a display of support to the protesting junior doctors and medical students.
