PU Non-teaching Staff Stage Rally

Patna: Dec. 5, 2007

PU Non-teaching Staff Stage Rally. Photo by Shashi UttamThe non-teaching staff of the Patna University (PU), on Wednesday, took out a rally from the university office to the Secretariat building in support of their 17-point demand including raise in their salaries and dearness allowances causing major road jams on Ashok Rajpath, Dak Bungalow Road, and Bailey Road.

Holding banners and waving flags, the rally arrived at the R-Block crossing only to be told that they could not go any further.

This led to a standoff between the rally-goers and the law enforcement officials. After some tense moments, the protestors agreed to send five of their representatives to meet with the Chief Minister at Patna Secretariat.

As it turned out, Nitish Kumar was not in his office and the delegates ended up handing over their charter of demands to his secretary.

The PU staff will refrain from going to work on December 6 and 7 and if their demands were not accepted in next few days, they would be forced to go on an indefinite strike, union vice president Umesh Prasad said.
