Nitish, Modi Hurting their Secular Image: RJD Aqaliyat Committee
Patna: Dec. 6, 2007
The state Aqaliyat Committee of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), on Thursday, staged a dharna at the Kargil Chowk in Patna to mark the 15th anniversary of the demolition of Babri Masjid in Ayodhya that led to the now infamous communal divide in the nation giving rise to incidents like Godhra in Gujarat.
Aqaliyat state president Mohammed Nematullah said the mosque was a shining beacon of secularism in India. "By destroying it, the communalists in the country killed the secular status of the nation that once it was very proud of," said Nematullah.
The leaders also took a shot at Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for 'siding with those who were responsible for the destruction of the Babri Masjid.
"By campaigning for Narendra Modi, the man responsible for Gujarat riots, Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi are not helping their secular image in Bihar.
RJD city president Khurshid Alam Siddiqui, legislator Shivnandan Singh, and other members of the Aqaliyat committee took part in the dharna.
