Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, on Friday evening, inaugurated the 16th book fair in Patna amidst the presence of former Bihar Chief Minister Jagannath Mishra, noted Patna poet Satyanarayan, Dr. Sachchidanand and a number of prominent Patna citizens.
Emphasizing the need of library in the development of any place, the Chief Minister said the libraries served a huge role in the intellectual development of the children and adults alike.
"We have allocated Rs. 20 crore for middle and high schools in Bihar to purchase books for their libraries. They have also been advised to buy books from the book fair to give the exhibition a boost," Kumar said.
Mishra, in his speech, lamented the high number of children who, due to some reason or other, had never attended a school.
"The NDA government is trying its best to provide education to all the children in Bihar but the number still remains very high. More than 44 lakh children in the state today are not in schools which is a sad commentary on the society," Mishra said adding 77% of children in the state drop out of the school in the lack of adequate facilities.
