Papiya Ghosh Murder Accused Gets 3 years on Unrelated Charges

Patna: Dec. 7, 2007

Nearly a year after the brutal murder of Patna University professor Dr. Papiya Ghosh and her live-in maid Malti Devi, a first class judicial magistrate in Patna on Friday awarded three years of rigorous imprisonment to Manohar Kumar, one of the four accused in the case, on charges of carrying illegal weapon under various arms Acts.

21-year old Manohar Kumar was arrested on April 10, 2006, nearly 8 months before the brutal murder of Prof. Ghosh and her live-in maid Malti Devi who were stabbed to death at Prof. Ghosh's home in Pataliputra Colony in Patna on December 3, 2006.

The convicted criminal was out on bail until his arrest again soon after the the killings of Dr. Ghosh and Malti Devi.

Three other persons were arrested two weeks after the crimes were committed.
