Human Rights Violation Cases Must be Taken Seriously: SC Justice
Patna: Dec. 9, 2007
Supreme Court Justice S. B. Sinha, at the 4th Dr. Chakradhar Jha Memorial lecture at the L. N. Mishra Institute in Patna on Sunday, appealed to other lawyers and judges to take human right violation cases very seriously and disregard any criticism of overreaching its power over the legislative and the executive branch of the government.
"There are a number of cases of human rights violations in the nation. Unfortunately, many of these cases go unnoticed and unresolved. Those of us who are in a position to put a brake on such incidents should not shy away from taking tough actions against the violators, Justice Sinha said.
Patna High Court Acting Chief Justice Narayan Rai also talked about the importance of court's role in minimizing human rights violations and the need for tougher measures against those who deliberately break the laws while minimizing the value of life.
Others who were present on the occasion included senior advocate Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, Justice Shivkirti Singh, Justice R. K. Dutt, and Justice Chandramauli Prasad, among others.
The event also featured a cultural show presented by the Advocates Association of Patna.
