Congress leaders and supporters in Patna on Sunday celebrated the 61st birthday of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) national president Sonia Gandhi by lighting firecrackers, cutting cakes, and distributing fruits among the blind and poor in the city.

The party state president Sadanand Singh wished Gandhi a happy birthday by lighting a lamp and cutting a cake at the Bahadur Housing Colony in Patna while the members of the National Students Union of India (NSUI), in their endeavor to outperform other groups celebrating Sonia Gandhi's birthday, exploded firecrackers in which its state treasurer Madan Mohan Jha received some injuries in his hand when a firecracker exploded in his hand.

Jha was taken to a hospital where he was given the first aid and released.

Meanwhile, Youth Congress leaders and the members of the so-called Rahul Gandhi Brigade, celebrated Gandhi's birthday by distributing fruits to the students of the School for Blind Girls in Kadam Kuan in the presence of former Congress state president Chandan Bagchi.
