Naxals Kill 3 in Vaishali District

Hajipur: Dec. 10, 2007

More than 50 armed Naxalites in Vaishali district on Monday night, opened indiscriminate fire on a house they thought belonged to the Mukhia of Patepur Indramohan Singh killing three villagers in the process while injuring at least four others, officials in Muzaffarpur said.

As reported, the house was actually owned by a Singh's leaseholder Bachcha Singh where gun-toting ultras opened dozens of rounds. Some men who were sitting around a bon fire outside the house were hit and were rushed to nearby hospitals where three died of the injuries while four others remain in serious conditions.

The extremists also torched a Bolero and a Scorpio vehicle and dropped Maoist literature before leaving the crime scene.

Unconfirmed sources said that Bachcha Singh also opened fire at the Maoists in retaliation but the assailants managed to slip away by taking advantage of the night.

Senior police officers have rushed to Patepur to monitor the situation. Red alerts have been issued in many districts including on the Bihar-Nepal border where most Naxals make their hiding, IG (Operations) S. K. Bharadwaj said.
