Former Patna Mayor Gets Bail in Murder Case
Patna: Dec. 11, 2007
District and Session Judge Mandhata Singh, on Tuesday in Patna, granted regular bails to the former mayor of Patna Murari Yadav, former district council president Sanjay Kumar, and the former chief engineer of the Patna Water Board Ravindra Kumar in the July 2005 murder of the then Patna Water Board chairperson Ashok Yadav.
The three accused were released after each posted two bonds of Rs. 2,000 each, the court said.
Ignoring the plea of the Acting Public Prosecutor Jai Prakash Singh, the judge ordered the release of three on bail after the accused surrendered in the Patna court at the directive of the Supreme Court.
Yadav was killed when criminals, on July 25, 2005 walked into his office on Birchand Patel Marg and hurled several bombs directed at him. While Yadav, also a Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) operative, died on the spot, four other water board officials were seriously injured in the incident.
A day later, Ganesh Yadav, the brother of Ashok Yadav, filed an FIR against the then Patna mayor Krishna Murari Yadav, Sanjay Kumar, and Ravindra Kumar.
Yadav's death was believed to be in retaliation of an early killing when criminals, allegedly bankrolled by none other than Ashok Yadav himself, gunned down Ranjit Gope, a ward councilor, and his cousin and bodyguard Hiro Yadav at a gas station in Gardanibagh area on June 4, 2005.
