Former Bihar Minister Awarded Life Imprisonment

Patna: Dec. 12, 2007

A fast track court in Nawada on Wednesday, after hearing closing arguments from both the defense and the prosecution, awarded life imprisonment to the former state minister Aditya Singh and three others in the January 2006 murder of Sakarpura Panchayat mukhia Lallan Singh.

In a jam-packed courthouse amidst very tight security, Additional District and Session Judge Vijay Shankar Pathak awarded the penalty to Aditya Singh, Narsingh Singh, Tarun Singh, and Mukesh Singh in the January 6, 2006 killing of Lallan Singh under Indian Penal Code 302/34 and 120 (b) sending them to prison for life.

Narsingh Singh and Mukesh Singh were also given three years on various Arms Acts though both punishments would be served concurrently.

Lallan Singh was gunned down while on his way to a market to buy fertilizer. His brother Vipin Singh had later filed an FIR against the former minister and three of his accomplices with the Akbarpur police station.
