Pirated CDs over Rs. 1 Lakh Seized; One Arrested

Patna: Dec. 12, 2007

The police in Patrakar Nagar in Patna on Wednesday, at three raids, recovered pirated CDs, VCDs, and DVDs with the street value of over Rs. 1 lakh, Patrakar Nagar police station in-charge Nikhil Kumar said.

The shopkeeper of the store was arrested though two other men in the stores managed to give a slip to the law enforcement officials.

Acting on various reports, the police conducted simultaneous raids at three different outlets in Hanuman Nagar, Lakshmi Nagar, and Sanjay Gandhi Nagar netting more than 8,000 CDs and computer equipment used to make illegal copies of original song and movie CDs.

Kumar said that most counterfeiters, due to relentless crackdown on CD piracy in shops in Bakerganj area, have started to shift their operations in other localities including Kankarbagh and Gardanibagh where many such shops have mushroomed in last few months.

"We are trying to identify these counterfeiters and more arrests could be expected in the next few coming weeks," said the police station in-charge.
