State to Bear Ailing Mathematician's Expenses

Patna: Dec. 14, 2007

The state government on Friday pledged to provide all help to the internationally-acclaimed mathematician Vashisht Narain Singh who remains in poor health conditions for last several years in the absence of any source of income.

State Energy Minister Vijendra Prasad Yadav, while responding to a question raised by Laldas Rai during the zero hour at the Bihar Assembly, said Singh was not only a pride of Bihar but a national property of India and there should not be any politics on his current plight.

"We will ensure the mathematician's medical and daily needs are fulfilled without any delay and he is provided the best medical care that the nation has to offer," said Yadav.

Other issues raised by the opposition leaders included better conditions for jailed leaders like Anand Mohan, increase in teachers' wages, and implementation of various central schemes in Bihar.

After an unusually turbulent and partisan short winter session, House Speaker Uday Narain Chowdhary adjourned the Assembly indefinitely in view of Christmas and New Year.
