Photo by Shashi UttamA team of Vigilance Bureau sleuths led by DSP Prakash Nath Mishra, on Thursday, raided a house in Phulwari area, and arrested Awadh Kishore Anand, the key accused in the Muzaffarpur land scam and the estranged son-in-law of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Ramai Ram.

Anand had been wanted in the illegal transfer of 1.57 acre of prime land in the pricey Bhagwanpur Chowk in Muzaffarpur legally owned by the widow and daughter of businessman late Qurban Mansoori, the police said.

The accused, using force, coercion, and forged documents usurped the land from Julekha Khatoon and after keeping 24 cottah land for himself, sold other portions of the land to various government employees part of the land mafia in Muzaffarpur.

The incident took place in 2006.

Four persons involved in the scam are already behind bars while Anand had dodging the police despite a warrant against him. Earlier the court had ordered attachment of his properties yet Anand had been able to evade the law apparently using his connections in high places.

He is expected to be produced before a Muzaffarpur court in next few days.
