Youth Faking his own Abduction Arrested
Patna: Dec. 20, 2007
The cliché that some people will do anything for money held true on Thursday when the police arrested 20-year old Nishikant, a fourth year student at Patna's Buddha Dental College, for faking his own kidnapping with the help of a cousin and demanding Rs. 2 lakh from his own father.
The police also arrested Nishikant's cousin and accomplice Karmveer who, using Nishikant's cell phone, made the ransom call to his friend's father, Kankarbagh police station in-charge Ramakant Prasad.
As reported, after hatching the plot to fake his own abduction, Nishikant left for Howrah in West Bengal where he stayed in a hotel. Meanwhile, his cousin Karmveer, playing the part of Nishikant's kidnapper, called his family and demanded a ransom of Rs. 2 lakh for the safe return of their son.
The family contacted the police that sprung into action looking for any clue in the case. What piqued the interest of the police was the role of Karmveer who followed police like shadow asking numerous questions about any development in the case.
To confirm their doubts, the police detained Karmveer and asked him some tough questions upon which he broke down and admitted of being a part in the entire shenanigan.
The police, along with Karmveer, went to Howrah and arrested Nishikant from the hotel where he had been staying for last few days.
Both men, facing extortion charges, were sent to the jail to be later produced in a court.
