Mianpur Massacre Accused in Police Net

Jehanabad: Dec. 21, 2007

The police in Jehanabad on late Thursday night succeeded in apprehending notorious criminal and the chief accused in the Mianpur massacre in the Magadh region Agjaivi Sharma and five of his gang members and recovered two pistols and nearly a dozen live cartridges from their possession.

Sharma, a member of the banned Ranvir Sena extremist outfit, was arrested from Pokhwan village under Shakurabad police station after the police learnt that he and his goons had come to the village to settle a land dispute between two warring factions.

A team of Special Auxiliary Police (SAP) led by senior police officials raided the house of one Sachchidanand Sharma and arrested him while also arresting Agjaivi Sharma, Sunil Sharma, Dhananjay Sharma, Vikki Kumar, and Kunal Kishore.

Agjaivi Sharma had been evading the police since 2000 shortly after he carried out the carnage in Mianpur in which dozens of people from lower castes were butchered to create a terror in the region.

He was also wanted in a number of murders, abduction, extortion, and carjacking in the state, the police said.
