Liver Transplant to begin at Mahavir Arogya Sansthan
Patna: Dec. 22, 2007
In an effort to improve health care in Bihar, Mahavir Arogya Sansthan in Patna would soon begin liver transplantation within the hospital to prevent patients from going to Delhi or other metropolitan areas for specialized medical treatment, hospital Administrative Director Dr. S. C. Mishra said on Saturday.
Dr. Mishra and Medical Director Dr. S. P. Srivastava said the facilities to transplant liver would begin under the supervision of Dr. U. P. Singh as early as March next year. An ultra-modern Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and a Trauma Center would also become operational around the same time.
Until now Bihar only had the facilities to conduct advanced medical diagnosis related to liver ailments like Pancreatic Cancer but now the hospital would be able to conduct entire treatment under one roof that is sure to attract patients from not only Bihar but from other states and Nepal as well, officials said.
Dr. U. P. Singh said liver expert Dr. Subhash Gupta of Apollo Hospital in New Delhi will also visit Mahavir Arogya Sansthan every two months to monitor cases and offer advices in an effort to continue to bring improvement in the department.
