Children Reported Abducted Return Home Safely

Patna: Dec. 26, 2007

Criminals in Munger district on Tuesday abducted 11 children from near Kharagpur Lake in broad daylight while also robbing three female teachers of the Jai Mata Di Public School during a school picnic, officials said adding all children were later released by their kidnappers.

Kharagpur DSP Dheeraj Kumar, while talking to the reporters, said that senior police officials along with a contingent of Special Auxiliary Police (SAP) and Central Reserve Protection Force (CRPF) rushed to the picnic site and sealed the area to apprehend the criminals who, under pressure, released seven children first and then later freed other victims as well before disappearing in the crowd.

School spokesperson Rajiv Singh said 21 children were enjoying the Christmas picnic at the Bhaura Kund in the care of five school teachers when three criminals armed with pistols robbed them of their gold jewelries. Then they forced 11 children to go with them.

By the time the police arrived, all the children were released and accounted for, Singh said.

Unconfirmed reports, however, said that the entire kidnapping story was made up by the teachers after the children lost their ways in the nearby forest.

The police is investigating the case from various angles.
