Patna: Dec. 26, 2007

Dense fog in Patna. Photo by Shashi UttamTemperature in Patna dipped to 19º Celsius on Tuesday as the entire state capital was engulfed in thick fog though by noon, sun came out from behind the haze giving some relief to those with no roof to take shelter under.

The director of the Patna Weather Center Dr. T. N. Jha said the state would continue to see further dip in the temperature with increase in fog for next several days.

Commuters had a harrowing time in the dense fog as visibility dipped down to 15-20 feet making it nearly impossible to drive with situation further aggravated by the vehicles driving without their headlights on.

Meanwhile, nearly all trains on Patna-Gaya and Patna-Mughalsarai division of the East-Central Railways were reported to be running way behind their schedule. At Patna airport also, most flights were delayed causing much inconvenience to the travelers returning to their homes after the Christmas vacation.

More than a dozen casualties were reported due to accident caused by the fog and dipping temperature.
