Leaders End Campaign in Bikramganj

Patna: Dec. 27, 2007

People of Bikramganj finally heaved a collective sigh of relief after the 'netas' and their minions retreated to their homes as campaigning for the Assembly by-poll in Bikramganj came to an end on Thursday leaving them confident of their parties’ victory while predicting doom and gloom for their political opponents.

Polling begins at 7:00 am on December 29 and results are expected to be announced on January 2.

With no more door-to-door campaign during the last 24 hours prior to the opening of the poll, the Election Commission has taken extraordinary steps to ensure polls are held in a safe and fair atmosphere.

Chief election officer Sudhir Kumar Rakesh said directives have been issued to deal with anti-social elements with stern hands and booths likely to attract trouble have been identified to prevent voter intimidation and booth capturing.

Altogether a dozen candidates from various parties are vying for the Bikramganj seat including Janata Dal (U) candidate Meena Singh, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) hopeful Dr. Ashok Kushwaha, CPI-ML candidate Arun Kumar Singh, and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate Balram Mishra.
