New Initiatives to Attract Tourists in Bihar
Patna: Dec. 28, 2007
To provide a new kind of thrill to the tourists and local fun-seekers alike, the Tourism Corporation in Patna has made arrangements to offer motorboat rides in the Ganges on the New Year's Day, officials in Patna said on Friday.
The motor boat idea is part of an overall strategy to attract tourists to the state capital by offering them top class treatment at the city's prominent hotels including the facilities of Jacuzzis and saunas, use of swimming pool at Chandragupta Jal in Rajendra Nagar, and up to 20% discounts at hotels and restaurants.
Borrowing the idea from the state of Hawaii, foreign tourists arriving at Patna Airport, at Rajgir, Bodh Gaya, Nalanda, Vaishali and other historical sites would now be greeted with tropical flowers and garlands to make them relax and set the right mood for the visitation.
An hour of motorboat ride in the Ganges would cost Rs. 75 per person that would also include some snacks like samosa and chaat, officials said.
Besides January 1, the motorboat rides would also be offered on a regular basis on Saturdays and Sundays between 8:00 am and 8:00 pm.
For excursion trips to Rajgir, Nalanda, and Pawapuri, parting with Rs. 400 would buy one a ticket on a deluxe tourist bus service and free meal and snacks throughout the day while the same service could be obtained for Vaishali and Kesaria for a price tag of Rs. 550.
A four-hour trip to prominent tourist sites in Patna would cost Rs. 75, program manager Rashmi Verma said on Friday.
